College Prep Coursework
Because admission to Mays Business School is competitive, grades play a key role in the application process. Grades directly affect your class ranking, so it's important for you to keep them up. High school is also the best time to establish good study skills, such as managing your time wisely and learning how to take good notes.
It all starts in the classroom. So visit with your guidance counselor to make sure you are on the right track and taking the necessary courses that will prepare you for college. Here are Texas A&M's recommended minimum classes you should take in high school:
- 4 years of college preparatory English
- 3.5 years of mathematics (Algebra I and II, Geometry and a least half a credit of advanced math)
- 3 years of science (two must be from Biology I, Chemistry I or Physics I)
- 2 years of same foreign language is recommended
Only in rare cases will students be admitted to Texas A&M (or Mays Business School) without these requirements. Most applicants will have taken courses well beyond this minimum, taking the most challenging courses their high schools offer.
